WOAH. It’s been so long since I’ve blogged. I have had so much going on recently – new job, new apartment and my boyfriend is finally done travelling for the summer! This was the first thing to get put on the back burner, but now that the apartment decor is just about done I have some more free time on my hands!
I can’t wait to share some of the things we’ve been doing in the apartment over the coming weeks – including a gallery wall, bar cart and more! But let me start first with the MOST needed thing about my apartment (besides a fresh coat of paint… goodbye green walls!) – the outlet situation in the bathroom.
How random is this – my apartment doesn’t have an outlet in the bathroom!? It has a million amazing qualities, but ladies, let’s be real – that’s a huge downfall! To make the best of a bad situation, I set up a super cute (if I do say so myself) vanity station in my bedroom. Now I have one spot to do my hair and makeup – instead of carting my blow dryer, clip and brush back and forth from the living room to the bathroom.
1. Gold wall mirror ($9.62) *now on sale
2. White bookshelf ($71.99) *search for coupon codes before purchasing!
3. Gold stool w/ linen top ($35)
4. Misc. desk items (less than $15 total)
5. Large mirror from TJ Maxx – I spray painted it gold to match the theme (mirror: $50, spray paint: $7)
I didn’t have a ton of space to work with, but my bedroom is super well lit because of the huge windows and there is a plug right there, so I figured that was a good place to start! I didn’t have enough room for a traditional desk, but if you do here is a great one (if you’re apartment is also gold you can spray paint the handle gold). I opted to use a bookshelf since the space is smaller and it works perfectly – it also allows me to take advantage of the shelves underneath so I don’t have to keep as much on top. If you’re going to set up a desk, you can find super cute baskets to store your hair tools in underneath!
As a side note, can we talk for a minute about how awesome Target is!? I mean, first of all, a lot of my stuff came from there. But second, when I was putting this bookshelf together it had all of the hardware placed into their own little plastic sections and then labeled by which step they went along with. Literally took all of the guess work out of it – and they even came with extra hardware pieces. The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes to put together. As someone who has tried – and failed – with similar items from Wal-Mart, trust me, this is amazing!
I ended up leaving the back off of the bookshelf so that I could push it right up to the wall (specifically, the part with the outlet) and connect my blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, etc. with ease! Because of the tight space, I do keep the stool to the side of the bookshelf during the day but it fits perfectly when I place it in front!
I would say the essentials for this project are the wall mirror, the bookshelf (or desk) and the stool. I love that they are all mix and matchy so don’t feel like you need to buy a set! The miscellaneous desk items are certainly a nice add-on, but definitely not required! I found these items at Hobby Lobby and Home Goods. The large mirror leaned up against the wall is not a requirement, but it does make the space overall seem larger. Again, I bought a mirror that had a large wood frame – the wood frame wasn’t really my style but it was the cheapest I could find. It was super easy to spray paint the wood to make it be gold and only took a few hours to dry!
Mirror before (I forgot to take a picture – but here’s a random one where you can see the light blue wood frame)
This project was so fun & surprisingly easy to put together – and my boyfriend was a huge help for coming with me and helping me find all the pieces. Also, it’s always nice to have a pair of muscles when it comes to the heavy lifting (aka trying to get the bookshelf in the car)!
